The Jewel Of Changi
Is it possible to fall in love with a city? If it is, then I fell for Singapore. The city and its people were perfect. The only negative, and it is a small one, is that prices for food and lodging are similar to a major American city. My hotel was about 250 USD per night and each meal ran about 40 USD.
Singapore Changi Airport Waterfall
It is a strange thing to me that an airport is in itself a destination for sight seeing. Yet, Changi Airport Singapore is just that.
Certainly you can easily and swiftly pass through the airport either arriving or departing on a flight. However, the airport has a number of attractions that pull in visitors from all around.
Normally, at an airport, you need to move past security to get to areas that are interesting and pretty. Shopping is also past security. That is not the case in Singapore.
There is shopping past security, but before security and accessible to anyone even if they are not flying is a great shopping mall and The Jewel of Changi.

The Jewel of Changi is well worth your time to visit. The water does not flow 24 hours a day however. I got to the airport very early for my flight thinking I would have maximum time enjoying the waterfall.
If I recall correctly, the waterfall began flowing at 11 AM. Crowds of people start gathering about an hour before that looking to settle in to good viewing spots.
There are a lot of places you can watch the waterfall from including many that are higher up on platforms. I would suggest finding a spot higher up and watching the waterfall begin and then moving to ground level.
As you can see in some of the pictures and probably, this is a popular place for people to get their social media pictures. Droves of people are constantly trying to set up and take the perfect picture. All of this is really a shame as they spend more time setting up and taking the picture than watching and enjoying the waterfall.

Is Singapore Worth A Visit?
Singapore airport is apparently the best airport in the world. I can easily understand this.
At night there is a wonderful light show in and around the waterfall. Also well worth the visit. You can expect fair size crowds for this also.
Getting to the airport is actually very easy. The train will run right to it and drop you off inside. If you are staying at the Paradox Hotel in Clarkes Quay you can get on to a train about 50 feet from the hotel entrance.
Most of the plants surrounding the waterfall are real with teams of people caring for them. When you are here you forget that close by airplanes are taking off and landing.
The Jewel of Changi
It is my intent to visit Singapore many more times in the future. I realize now that I need to dedicate a lot more time just to wandering around the airport and enjoying the waterfall.
What I have not mentioned is all the other cool things you can do in the airport. It is fair to say that you can spend a day enjoying yourself at the airport. The Jewel, while wonderful is just one of many great things here to see and do.
Who would have thought an airport could be so cool.
