Travelling alone is an interesting experience. I always get a little anxious that something will go wrong or I will forget something and there I am all alone. So far, my experiences have been nothing but great. I over plan, go to safe places and brings plenty of cash. This combination seems to work just fine so far.
Prague is one of those places that I have heard great things about and always wanted to go. So I went.
Where to stay in Prague? Stay in Old Town Prague.

The picture is actually of Old Town. At first I thought it might be unreasonably expensive to stay in such a cool area. I was wrong. I was able to find a very nice hotel right in the center of this picture and it was very affordable. It was about $125 USD per night in 2024.
Hotel staff were great. The breakfast buffet included and delicious. From a hotel in Old Town you just walk to where ever you want to go. There is no need for taxi or car. Most everything a person might want to do in a 1 week visit is within easy walking distance.

Best area to stay in Prague?
I was given a fair number of ideas by different people, but Old Town is really the best. At night crowds of people come out and just wander around eating, drinking and seeing the sites. Any hotel in Old Town will give you quick and easy access to this by walking.
The city is very different during day and then night. Mornings are quiet. Nights are more lively. I would imagine people are sleeping off the beer in the morning. The weather can be a bit cold sometimes and at night even in August, September it can be a bit chilly at night. Bring a coat.

Prague Castle
Walking to Prague Castle from Old Town is easy. Go to Charles Bridge. Cross the bridge and look up on the hillside. You cannot miss seeing it. Head towards the castle. It is difficult to get lost and most roads will lead you to the castle.
How long do you need in Prague?
I was in Prague for a week and did not see everything I wanted to see. People who go to Prague for just a few days are going to regret it. One thing that is not obvious is that while there is the entire city you see above ground, there is a heck of a lot of city below ground as well. Much of life happens below street level.
The best currency exchange rate I found was in a booth below ground by an underground train station. You can also find a lot of local food underground. I think a week is the shortest time to come to Prague. There is just too much to see and do.
